LOVEABLE QUIRKY PEEPS

ANOTHER WALK...

Are you ready for another walk into the last century?
Oh my, that sounds like soooo long ago saying it that way...

Yet, saying "I was born smack dab in the middle of the last century" makes me feel, ummm, like a wise old sage! Like I have a value...something they would *ooo and awww* about on 'Antiques Roadshow'

Oh my..... time to move on down the lane again.
This time lets play some games!

Did you ever hide and wait to scare someone coming around the corner?

Do you remember.....

Playing with your much loved DOLLY?
And what was her name?

Maybe you took her for a ride in the buggy.

Or *Nursed * her back to feeling better

Did you have a little 'Tom Boy' in you and hung from the *MONKEY BAR*?

Did you ever fall trying to be a monkey?
I remember a few scrapes and bruises...

 How about JUMP ROPE?

Did you do it like these kids, or single? And do you remember *Double Dutch*, with two ropes? How about some of the rhymes we said..."A- my name is Annie, my husbands name is Andy, we come from Alabama, and we sell Apples!" Or did you know the one that started out..."Not last night but the night before..." What other ones did you say?

And then there was the HULA HOOP!
Could you do it with two..three? I remember trying to do it around my scrawny neck and decided that was just dumb...
And it's made a come back...my grand daughters love them.
Come to think of it. I should get one again
and see if it would wear a circle around my middle...hmmm

How about HOP SCOTCH?
Did you have a real *Hoppy Taw*
or just use a rock or stick?

Did you play it like this, with numbers and a 'goal'?

Or maybe with words and a ball..

Oh, and do you remember the hot days...

when you got to RUN THROUGH THE SPRINKLER?
And why did the boys always hog the water....

Where you ever told to go  fly a KITE?

I always had a hard time running fast enough to get it up in the air!

How about PUPPETS?

 I don't recall having a *real* one,
but socks worked fine (O:
So what if you had a face on one of yours...
the saddle shoes covered up everything!

When you went SWIMMING,
was it in a pond or the lake?

Did anything ever swirl around your legs
and *EEEK* you out?

Oh yes. playing DRESS UP...
how fun that was, feeling all grown up and fancy.

Did your Mom let you use her clothes? Grandma? Were you one of the lucky ones who lived in a house with the mysterious attic? And what did you find to dress up in? And what part did you play...the Mom, the Sister, the Old Woman down the street?
My grand daughters still love to play dress up and put on *plays*

Did you have a CHINESE CHECKERS game?

I remember one, but it never had enough marbles to play...the boys would use them to play marbles!

 How about CHESS?

I still don't get it......

Did you have a TREE HOUSE?

I think some of the boys in town had one but...
'Girls Not Allowed' was the norm.
So I'd just climb the trees! Did you do that?

And oh, the MERRY~GO~ROUND...
My tummy feels *wavy* right now remembering that...
Did you ever jump off when it was going?
Ya, more scraped knees and elbows..

Or did you just play RING AROUND THE ROSY?

There are so many more games we played. That was back when kids didn't have all the 'Techno Gadgets' of today. And if we watched any TV, it was maybe the 30 minute "Howdy Doody Time" or maybe 'Captain Kangaroo" and then out to play again. Seems we always found something to do.

Even just going out to pick some wildflowers for Mom....

Thanks for stopping by again and taking another trip backward with me.
Let me hear what you remember playing back then and do you have a special toy saved from that time in your life?

I'll be back with more soon.
Have a wonderful weekend *Playing*

Yes - I do! My very last doll was Pollyanna - I love the movie and I LOVED that doll - in her red & white checked dress and her blond hair..I think she had a straw hat as well. i still love the smell of new dolls and can be found in the toy isle sniffing dolls heads at Christmas..kinda creepy, huh?

Wherever do you find those photos? Are they from your childhood? Amazing. I do have some, but mostly relatives grouped standing waiting to have their picture taken.
I remember rollerskating as a kid, with those iron key-on roller skates.
And going swimming in a little pond, about 15 mins walk away, through woods and fields.

LOVE these posts! I remember doing all of this - except for the tree house (I did make a little house for myself out of a huge box though).

I had a family of dolls, my favorite, which I still have was my "Baby Dearest" (1960) and her name is "Ginny".

Dressup? One of my best friends growing up lived next door and we would raid a box in her basement full of turn of the century clothes - gosh I still remember some of those dresses and gowns. As a collector of vintage/antique clothing now, I cringe to think of how we abused those items - we did have fun though!

Thanks so much for another fantastic post!

This is such a neat post! Love the walk down memory lane...and I've been there so much of late anyway with the candy and party planning. How does time go so quickly? It's crazy.

And I never scared anyone around the corner. They just did it to me to make me cry.

Sigh.

What wonderful memories! Thank you for them. It's a shame that kids today are glued to either the television, the computer, or their video games. They are missing out on so much.

Hey everyone, thanks for walking with me again..

Colleen, you're a hoot! I know if I ever walk by a toy store and some woman is smelling doll heads, I'll run in and laugh! Funny though, as I read this, I can smell them too!

Teresa, I hope you read the rest of the post..if I don't shorten them up they take the whole page! And I'm fine..thanks for asking. On to the rest of life ya know...

Ruth, I want to hear more about your life! And the pictures are from 'All Posters' I'll get that email sent soon...

Sue, I remember 'Baby Dearest"..a friend had one. So cool that you still have her. Isn't it sad what we thought were just 'old' things then..And thanks for sharing some of your memories too.

Jenny, shame on them! And I can't wait to see how your walk to the past unfolds! Then to read more about the 'Farm house'

Mary, I agree they're missing out. That's why I like to take the grand kids out doing something.

Thanks so much for cool comments!
