LOVEABLE QUIRKY PEEPS

LETS' TAKE A WALK....

BACKWARDS for a minute.

I grew up in the 50's so I thought I'd take a little walk back there today. I know some of you will remember these things. And the younger gals can giggle a little and think they're glad they didn't grow up with no microwave, computer and cell phones. They just don't know what they missed.....

There are so many fun thing to remember from *way back then*...
I'll just touch on a few here today and add more on the next few posts.

So, do you remember when....

It took five minutes for the TV warm up?

But when it did, so you remember any of these people?

I've just touched on a few here but I sure remember watching them, even as a kid.

Nobody owned a purebred dog?

We had so many MUTT'S ..and loved them all.

You got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and gas pumped, without asking, all for free, every time? And you didn't pay for air? And, you got trading stamps to boot?

And paying maybe 25 cents per gallon of gas? In the little mining town I've told about, the man who owned the gas station was Max and he always came out to do this, sometimes leaving a car up on the hoist that he'd been working on. And speaking of that, I remember staying in the car while it was hoisted up to change the oil or brakes. And remember being told NOT to jump around while it was up there. So I'd sit nice and quiet with visions of the car falling off the hoist if I even breathed too hard!

How about baths in a # 6 tub? Anyone ever do that?

At my Aunt's home, there wasn't a bathroom till I was about 9 years old. So we used the old galvanized #6 tub! Bad thing about that is the little kids always got to go in first and by the time us older ones got our turn, well...
Ya, the water was not so hot and kinda already gray? YUK!  Lets move on.....

How about the old Kirby Vacuums, remember them?

I remember how loud they were! And the dust coming out of the bag if it hadn't been emptied...guess that was the sign that you should do it.

Looking at the last picture and this one...

Why is it women wore dressed to do housework? At least that's what I remember my friends Mom's doing. Mine wore pants..remember *Pedal Pushers?

And how about PINK fridges...

I remember my parents having one...and a TURQUOISE one too!

And then the ironing....

I remember helping my Aunt do ironing. With 5 males in the house, and us 3 females, there was a lot of that going on! And this was pre-wash and wear stuff...
Notice the dress again (O:

Of course, before you could do the ironing, you had to get the clothes off the line..

That's something I really didn't mind doing. That was my job...But I always took a minute to run through them first (O:

And before dishwashers...hand wash and dry...

I still do that...only air dry now...I got lazy...

Oh, and the fashions!

But I'll save that for another post...
So what do you remember

Looks like fun - I have different memories, since I didn't come to the States until 1969. I DO remember watching the landing on the moon in July of 1969 - it was July, wasn't it? (too lazy to google).
My childhood memories are really different, since we didn't get a TV in the house until I was 13. Sure, neighbors had one, and once in a while I would see 'Fury' or 'Bonanza', but not that often.

It does seem like those were the "good ole" days,I guess because we forget the problems and remember the good things. It was fun remembering!

Great pictures and great memories - only we never bathed in one of those tubs, but I remember swimming in the horse trough :-)

Loved this post, and YES I do remember so much of this. I was born in the 50s, but transitioning into the 60s, most of these things were still around.

The #6 tub? That was my swimming pool. And I definitely remember the ironing and clothes line, etc.
My sis and I had chores that had to be done every Saturday morning - and NO sleeping in.

"I still do that...only air dry now...I got lazy..." Me too! My diswasher broke and I was totally surprised to realize even though I hated doing dishes when younger, I actually find it rather relaxing now. Go figure!

Thanks for the walk down memory lane!

Hugs

What a trip down memory lane. I remember all of it accept for the pink and turquoise refrigerator. We only had a standard white.

Ah, such simpler times.

Have a great week-end dear friend,

Jo

We're of the same vintage, but we only ever had white refrigerators.

I hated ironing! Hated it! And guess what? It was my job. Nothing was permanent press. GAHHHHHHHHHH!

As a kid in the 50's, I was crazy in love with Roy Rogers (I think I was also in love with his horse Trigger)! In the 60's, I hung out diapers by the dozens...also sheets, white shirts which had to later be ironed, socks (each with a clothespin) and anything else that needed washing! I'd forgotten just how hard I used to work! Whew! Love the pictures and the memories all! Awesome post!
