Well, before anymore of it skips away, I want to share something special that was a part of mine this year, er...last year.
I've told stories about my friend from childhood, Marsha. And how after too many years, we finally connected again. She's such a fun person, and still calls her husband her *Boyfriend*! A giving person also. For the past 12 years at Christmas time, she does the 'Twelve Days of Christmas' for someone special in her life. For 12 days prior to the 25th, she sends sweet and silly things. The Christmas of 2008, I was the blessed one. She sent me 12 gifts, ranging from a sweet box with Turtle and Dove candies, a new golden watch, nice warm throw blanket and some sweet slippers. I should have written them all down....the mind forgets some things.
So the Christmas of 2009 I figured it was her turn to be on the the receiving end. She was surprised because it's always been her doing this. And she found out how silly I can be sometimes....
I'll share what I did for each of the 12 days, the card and saying that went with them and then a couple of pictures too.....
THE 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS FOR MARSHA 09
On the 1st day of Christmas my GOOD
friend gave to me..
A Partridge in a Pear Tree…OR
A glass Christmas plate with an embossed PARTRIDGE in a PEAR TREE!
On the 2nd day of Christmas my GREAT
friend gave to me..
2 Turtle Doves…OR
A green TURTLE neck sweater and DOVE hair products!
On the 3rd day of Christmas my GOOFY
friend gave to me..
3 French Hens…OR
A nic nac of 3 HENS in a basket, they talked to me in FRENCH!
On the 4th day of Christmas my SILLY
friend gave to me..
4 Calling Birds…OR
Four snack bowls on a bamboo tray..they look like BIRDS nests,
and the tray is a branch!
On the 5th day of Christmas my COOL
friend gave to me..
5 Golden Rings…OR
One big black RING ( spring form pan) to make me a cheesecake!
On the 6th day of Christmas my FUN
friend gave to me..
6 Geese A Laying…OR
A Mayberry Cookbook that includes Aunt Bee’s GOOSE-berry pie!
(that's her favorite TV show..still)
On the 7th day of Christmas my WEIRD
friend gave to me..
7 Swans a Swimming OR
A fish dish, who would be SWIMMING if it wasn’t a dish!
On the 8th day of Christmas my SWEET
friend gave to me..
8 Maids a Milking OR
A vintage MILK glass serving dish made the year you were born!
On the 9th day of Christmas my CRAZY
friend gave to me..
9 Ladies Dancing OR
NINE pair of heels so you can be the DANCING LADY!
(yes, 9 new pair of high heels)
On the 10th day of Christmas my AWESOME
friend gave to me..
10 Lords a Leaping OR
A pencil sketch of you, now you can LEAP for joy!
On the 11th day of Christmas my CLEVER
friend gave to me..
11 Pipers Piping OR
Some decorator bottles with tips so you can PIPE frosting on the cookies you'll make for me! (snowman cookie cutters were also included)
On the 12th day of Christmas my.. good, great, goofy, silly, cool, fun, weird, sweet, crazy, awesome, clever and TIRED friend sent to me..
12 Drummers Drumming OR
A book about all this so you’ll remember how fun it is! (this was a big cardboard children's book that I found at Barnes and Noble)
So much fun doing this for her. The high heels were significant because when we were kids we'd go around the neighborhood asking the ladies if they'd give us some old high heels so we could play dress up...(story on a past post.) And it took me all year to buy them...just about one a month. The pencil sketch was from an artist on Etsy 'Portraits by Laura' and you can contact her at her shop there...she's good.
Marsha was so surprised..especially with the shoes. She LOVES heels and has quite a collection. I just added to them (O:

Ok, just thought I'd share the fun, silliness of it and maybe even give you some ideas of how to surprise a friend in 2010.

Friends are part of the threads of life and nutrients for our souls. You are blessed to have such a friend as is she in you. What a fabulous and fun gift you put together for her. Love the shoes! LOL
How fortunate you are to have a friend from so long ago. And, what a neat idea to incorporate the 12 days of Christmas as gift giving. That is fabulous. I just may have to use that next year.
