LOVEABLE QUIRKY PEEPS

3/1/10

GIVEAWAY INFO...

HI EVERYONE!
If you've been here already and left a comment...YOUR IN!
If you're just getting here....

On the 22nd of this month it will be ONE YEAR that I've been a BLOGGER and I've loved every bit of it, especially meeting all of you.

And, I've been telling the story of my 2x great grandparents, starting with the post CANUTE AND SARAH. So I thought it would be fun to have the giveaway things focus around that. And sorry, I can't send you a covered wagon, a log house, or a wheelbarrow full of cow dung to keep you warm...
But, I could send you a sun bonnet like she has on...Really!

There's a store in the town of Ephraim, 20 miles from me, that will tie into the story I'm telling. It was built between 1871 and 1872. Through the years the town has used it for so many things. One of them Canute was very involved in...that's yet to be told.

This is what it looked like when Canute and Sarah were alive..

I have a few postcards like this and will send one to the winners also...

Until a few years ago it was in such disrepair, they were going to tear it down. But it has such a historical significance.. so a group of people bought it, restored it, and now it's on the State Historical Society's Register. It's also a little gift shop, called the Co-op.
98% of things sold there are handmade by women in this county.
I'll take a picture of how it looks now in a few days..

But first, I need to clear something up...
So many of you have told me I should publish the story of Canute and Sarah. Well, I'd love to, but it's already been done. I think I've said that's where I'm getting most of my information for telling the story. It may have gotten lost in all the words somewhere.

My Great Aunt Edith wrote this book sometime in the late 1950's...

She's my grama's youngest sister...they were her grandparents. She didn't publish many of them, but this is the one she gave to my grama and it's been passed down to me.
So, all the credit goes to Aunt Edith...she passed away in 1973.
But I'm sure if she can,
she's smiling at me (:

NOW to the prizes. I went to the Co-op store on Saturday and found some fun things. You'll have to excuse all the photo's cause I was in a hurry to get this posted....

There will be FOUR (4) giveaways for my  1 Year Blogaversary...once a week for the first three weeks in March. Then the fourth on the Anniversary day...March 22nd. All the prizes will come from the handmade items in the Co-op.

WEEK ONE... Monday, March 1st - Sunday, March 7th

This sweet kitchen towel someone has sewn a cute chicken on....

A hand crochet Yellow Hot Pad AND a Blue hand knitted Dishcloth

A Stone Food Tile...yes, handmade by a town Potter...instructions included.

And...you'll love this one.....

A little Norwegian Cook Book!

With recipe's like THIS....

Don't know if you can read it so good but...I wonder if people really eat that!?
There are some good ones in there too but some of them I had to laugh at...

So there ya go...

Ok, if you're one of my FOLLOWERS and you COMMENT about...well, anything, you will be entered. I'll check out the random thing but if that's too complicated or has too many restrictions, I'll have my grand daughter Katie pick the winner this coming Sunday night..the 7th

Now, if you don't win the first week, come back the second and that will count as 2 chances! And so on until the 22nd. Then I'll take ALL the comments and pick one...well, unless you've already won...

Ok, I'm going to TRY to post a little more of the story....
But I still need to eat and do a few other things. So if I don't get it done tonight, I will after work tomorrow.

Sheesh I talk a lot (o:

Hope to see you in the Comment thingy!

GOOD LUCK

I'll see ya yesterday...

You are so lucky to have this book. There is a book at the Morris County Library in New Jersey of my Pollard family, but I can only go to the library and look at it and take notes. Copies don't come out well because of the paper. I wish I had that book. It would mean so much to me.

Oh Mary, that's too bad. Can you take a picture of the pages??
I know if my Aunt hadn't wrote this book, we wouldn't know as much either. Canute's journals still exist but they are in the Church Library in SLC and protected...
And some of his personal books are in the Library in Ephraim but not allowed out of the building.
They're locked up in a big glass bookcase. It's fun to sit there and read them, knowing he held them once too. You should share some of what you've read about your family someday...

You have NO IDEA how glad I am that the Polar Bear Eye recipe does NOT include Polar bear eyes in the list of ingredients! You had me worried there..so, do you like Frog Eue salad too?

Congratulations on the FIRST year - with many more to come!

And it was so great for your great-Aunt to write the book so we could hear it from YOU :-)

Hi Vicki!

Well, Happy Blogiversary! (on the 22nd).

The whole Canute and Sarah story is wonderful and to pick a fav part so far is rather difficult - each entry
that you post has favorite moments for me. I think the one part that stands foremost in my mind however is in the very beginning when Sarah and Canute are holding hands as very young children at the grave.

"Polar Bear Eyes".....I'll pass thank you! LOL

It is amazing that you have this book, but more amazing that you have all the stories through the tellings.

It is wonderful to have history like this.

Is your family interesting?

Sometimes it seems kids don't care as much anymore!

Congratulations on your year of blogging!

How wonderful for us all!
