I'm participating in Saturday Centus,
hosted by JENNY MATLOCK Visit her to see how others formed a short story from this weeks prompt...which is in blue.
I'm again collaborating with PJ over at Seens From The Backs Of My Eyelids.

Hot as Hades, slimy, sultry and just plain evil. That's the only way to describe today's fickle personality.
Tom's gone on another business trip for the week, Jenny's off doing her own thing and I'm wallowing in the sweet taste of time for myself.
Maybe I should finish redecorating that extra room. I've put it off so long the cobwebs and dust bunnies are doing the Lindy Hop across the ceiling.
Maybe I should answer some letters.
Maybe I'll sit for awhile and read that book Helen said was so good. Let's see, oh yes, back to the road trip...
"Driving six hours is a long time on the road. Six hours spent singing car-aoke and taking in the picturesque scenery, but mostly reminiscing about the good times. But those days were long gone and my mind was in a different place now. Or was it? My pulse quickened as I passed the road sign which read "Medford 27 miles."
Chapter Two (PJ – under duress)
Hmmm. Nothing too imaginative about that paragraph. This book won’t make it past the 50 page test.
The darn phone! Doesn’t that just figure?
“Hello? Hi Tom, how are ya? Good! Good! I’m so glad. Just fine. Thought I’d read some. She spent the night at that nice girl, Mallory’s house. You and me both. Okay. Have a good day! Talk to you later! Love you.”
Some sweet tea would really hit the spot. Oops! Don’t forget the phone this time. Duh!
Now where was I with this Pulitzer prize winning masterpiece? How could I forget?

I smell romance novel….
" What do you mean you spent it all?"
Tom's in that mood again, mad because I went shoe shopping. Men just do not understand the 'need' a woman has for this indulgence.
What did he think I'd do with a free week, write a novel or something?
And of course Jenny is on one too. Flitting around like some crazed butterfly being chased by a ravenous flock of birds. What's she started now?
Then the call from Helen this morning, asking if I've read the last pages of her book yet. What's the big mystery?
Now, where did I stop....

Chapter 3 (Vicki)

Chapter Four (PJ – still under duress)
You’d think the first paragraph would grab you. Bah!
“Bzzzz! Bzzzz!”
Sheesh! MY friends don’t ring the doorbell!
“No, Jenny’s not home. Out with Mallory. Why don’t you TRY. HER. CELL. PHONE.”
I’m going to start this book if it’s the last thing I do.
Hmm. When was the last time we painted in here? It sure could use a little lift. Terracotta would be nice.
Okay, where was I?

Chapter Five (Vicki)
Ok, phones unplugged, 'Out to Lunch' sign on the door, iced tea and that book!
Oh joy.. on to Medford.
"Some things never change. Trees and kids get taller, older people are still old, memories linger. Why did I come back? Does time really help?"
AGH, slower than snail poo...
Helen's not here; I'll skip a few pages..or chapters.
"Didn't see headlights on the highway for miles and the conversation was lagging."
Blah. Blah. Blah.
Flipping through more pages...
"Victoria's secrets only the Priest and I know."
Secrets?
Priest?
Wait a minute, how did this start?
Flipping back...

Chapter 6 (PJ)
Home to Medford. Yadda Yadda.
“Victoria’s secrets only the priest and I know”.
Apparently I skipped over too many pages.
Victoria’s secrets. Pfft…pretty funny.
Maybe I can just skim this baby and be done with it.
“Gunther waited patiently for dusk, thankful for October’s shorter days.
Dressed in black, he crept silently out of his room at the Medford Motel and cautiously down the stairs to his parked car. Victoria’s secrets would soon be captured on film for all to see.”
Well, well! Perhaps it would behoove me to start at page one and actually read this!!

The End.
