LOVEABLE QUIRKY PEEPS

MY BAD.....

Not sure how to even start this post.

Wasn't sure I wanted to tell it.

Sometimes I'm such an optimist, so sure of myself.

Think everything will turn out how I want it to...

But it doesn't.

Think I have all the answers.

But I don't.

Yes, this is about the Beagle.

If you already know...

And if not, maybe you should go read it first.

Ok, I'll just tell what happened...

Sunday morning the phone rang. Dad sounded so upset...

"I'm sorry honey but this isn't going to work.  I didn't get any sleep last night. I let the dog out for awhile then brought him back in and went to bed. He settled down on the floor by the bed for a few minutes then started howling. Not barking, just howling. I got up and thought maybe he wanted out again. He didn't. Just kept howling. I talked to him for awhile but he started coughing and hacking so bad. And howling. So I tried to get some sleep anyway and maybe dozed off and on. I got up early and he was still not doing so good. I walked out to the kitchen and the dog had pooped all over the place. I got it cleaned up, made sure he had clean water and watched him cough and hack. I'm so tired and I feel so bad but I can't do this. What can we do?"

My heart sunk...

I thought to call the Rescue place but they're closed on Sunday.  Called the Tooele dog pound. They said they could come get him. Then called back and said they couldn't....

So I tried the rescue place anyway and someone answered. A lady named Marcie had just come in to feed the animals.

After explaining what happened, she said she knew what dog we had...he has allergies. No problem, bring him back.

He really was a good little guy. If I could have kept him myself I would have. But I can't. Especially if he howls. Army rules say if an animal disturbs neighbors....

So, my bad. I was wrong. I'll never try that again....

BUT, there's something good coming from this anyway.

After I got the beagle settled back at the shelter and had a long talk with Marcie, I left knowing he did a good thing.

My dad is 83 years old and has COPD; uses an inhaler when he needs it. I've told him for a couple years now that some of his problem is where he's living. I see mold on the ceiling where water has leaked in. His wife wasn't the best housekeeper and even after going over the walls and everything with my super duper Rainbow vac, I know there's dust hiding all over in the old carpet and inside closets etc. They had cats and smoked in there for years. And it's a house trailer they bought new....in 1983. I think you get the picture.

So my words to dad when I got back were "Dad, the dog was having a hard time breathing in here, it wasn't the best place for him either. Can you imagine now how bad it is for you?"

I was assured the little beagle would find a good home. I know he will...

And I hope now, dad will consider making some changes. This won't be easy for him, I know that. But I'd like to keep him around for as long as I can.

And I still believe in "this was suppose to happen" days.

Cause everything happens for a reason...

You seem to have a good understanding of the whole problem with your dad and the beagle. The beagle will be fine..I hope your dad will see the truth about where he lives and make some changes for his own health. You are a very caring daughter!

MY GOD,

STEVIE WONDER COULD HAVE SEE THIS COMING!!!!!!!

Well, if not Stevie, Richard!

After Richard read that you got the Beagle, the first thing he said was, poor Bush, that thing is going to howl all night.

BUT YOU DO HAVE A BIG HEART and We love you anyway. Don't bring me any animals, Ella.

Hey it happens and i commend you for trying. How about a cat? no bad idea allergies. They have fake dogs on leases that walk and bark? Poor guy hope he gets some sleep tonight.

I know you must feel bad Vicki, but I'm positive the beagle will find a
wonderful forever home. It is a shame that it didn't work out for your Dad, and you may be right about the dust/mold environment. Definitely not healthy sounding.

Hugs

It's a hard lesson for sure..but good comes from those lessons as well..we may not know right away..but these things DO happen for a reason.. :-)
