CHANGE in a BOTTLE...O IS FOR...

 WARNING...WARNING...WARNING...

THIS POST CONTAINS POTTY TALK...

Now, since Mrs Matlock will be scanning for *dirty* words, it'll be interesting to see if this comes up as one..kinda like my H word of Hump. Cause believe me, there's gonna be a lot of Potty Talk this week. But keep your silly look to yourself teach. You can go see that look on her Alphabethursday over here ..

And PooPer isn't a naughty word either. It's used to describe an OBJECT I'm sure you carry with you at times. Like when you take OSCAR for a stroll... just add the word ScooPer to it.

So now, this week the letter O is for....

Yep, the Lil ol Shack Out Back. Although they may be sorta OBSOLETE, I actually have fond memories of two of 'em. I half grew up at my Aunt Marie's house in a little old mining town. Truth is, when you went there you had to set your watch back about 30 years.

When I was at my parent's house or even my grand parent's house, they had indoor plumbing. But there wasn't a real bathroom in my Aunt's house till I was almost 10 years old. And my best friend Rello, they never had anything but the good 'ol  PooPer out in back. When her dad passed away in 1994 it was still there....and he still used it (o:

Maybe this subject is a little OUTDATED, ODOROUS and to some, OBNOXIOUS,  but I'm gonna share it with all the giggles it deserves.

So, since we got all that OUTTATHEWAY,
here's my lesson for this week's letter O..

This little gal sure brings back memories...
I remember making *that run* myself many times. The one we had was a good 'ol two seater. I've heard a few stories as to why some had the two holes. Some had a smaller one for the kids..or dainty women... and the bigger one was for...well...bigger ones (o:

Another story was because when one side got too full, you just threw some lime down that hole and used the other side. That must have been the case with ours cause I sure don't remember a small hole. I just know I'd hang on for dear life cause a what the boys always said was down there if I ever let go...the dreaded and awful smellin Turd Monster! Yikes!! They always threatened to hang me upside down in there if I told on some of the dumb things we did. Like this...

You've probably heard the stories of how on Halloween, (and other times) someone would go OUTHOUSE Tippin....yep, wrong as rain in a flood. But hey, at least we didn't do it when 'ol Mr Hanks was IN it.. He was the cranky old man that lived next to us. Now I understand why he was so ornery...

And oh, the memories of hikin up the back yard in snow up to my knees at night. Guess it could a been worse...

Don't think I'd go in this one. At least I wouldn't a leaned on the back wall..

Then there was the times when two of ya had to go at the same time. Wasn't so bad when we were little kids, just wasn't an issue. But as we got a bit older, that just wasn't gonna happen. Course me bein the girl, I remember standing outside with my legs crossed...and visions of the stinky Turd Monster in my head.

Looks like *Somebunny's* having to wait in line here too. Bet they heard the same tale about  youknowwho...

This one would bring a smile to a hunters face...

Bet it's a two holer.....
Do you know why there's a crescent moon on the doors ? Me neither, ours wasn't that fancy. But I'll go find out...

Ok, this is what I found...Here

Crescent Moon:  The crescent moon cutout and the star cutout on the door of many outhouses goes back to Colonial times. In a time when few people could read, the crescent moon was the symbol for women while the star cutout was for men.  It is thought that the men, in general, let their outhouses fall into such bad shape that it was the women's outhouses that survived the test of time.  The cutout also let light into the outhouse as there were usually no windows.

Well, maybe ours didn't have the Moon or Star, but at least it had a seat.

I couldn't use one like this now, don't see how I'd ever get back up!

Ok, I found some funnies...

I know my city cousins would never have taken that walk if they lived where I did. Even if someone would a held their hand...

Hey, this one even had the *paper* hangin on a nail!

Good advice...
I do remember a wire hanger bent to allow a roll of toilet paper to hang on it. But ya always grabbed a napkin to take out with ya..just in case. That 'ol Turd Monster liked to eat that roll of white paper sometimes...

Now this is how ya camp in style!

One for MA and the other for PA (o:

Ok, this one I would definitely get dibs on the TOP...

Still haven't figured out how it would work...

Know what's growing around this one ?

Elderberries. My thoughts are, it's because of what you can make with them Elderberries. And what a good place to hide and drink what you can make with them...
Notice the Moon AND Star (o:

This one has a sign on it...

Since there's no moon or star, guess it's in case someone can read.. (says 'Toilet')

Then there's this sign...

HUH ??? ..think I'd have me an empty coffee can or something....Or maybe that 'ol Turd Monster lives there now......hmmmmm.

Nowadays, since we're in the *Green* of things,

you can make your very own composting OUTHOUSE.. In case you feel Green, you can

learn more about it by visiting here..

I even found a place that has yearly OUTHOUSE Races!

Really! Now that may be something fun to do. I've heard of toilet races...(o:
You can see more pictures by going here, and the link is on the top right..

Well, guess that's all I know about OUTHOUSES. And again, I better end this. Either Mrs Matlock will get me for taking up the whole chalkboard again, or PJ will think she has to show me where that dang 'ol Turd Monster is at recess......

Keep smilin (o:

LOL, Loved this post. My husband when he was little would visit his grandma's farm and had to use the outhouse.

I also remember years ago, when you stopped at rest stops off the freeway they didn't have regular toilets. It was just like an outhouse LOL. The thing I remember about it was the smell. P.U.

Personally, I think you should get an A+ for this.

Jake, I loved this! My mom was raised with a two-holer and we've heard our share of stories, but I never knew about the crescent moon and the star!

You are one of the more resourceful students in this class.... I'm never disappointed!

Great post!

Yup, I remember Out-Houses. My Great Aunt Josie and Great Uncle Bill had one, down back. Partly set over the creek. Bet you can guess where "stuff" went... -chuckle-

Needless to say, I never used it when visiting. Due to it's kinda' over-the-creek position.

Great post I enjoyed reading it very much. I remember those out houses and they did not smell good to say the least. My grandparents had one they used through the 1950's before finally getting indoor plumbing. Hugs!

I loved this! Interesting, funny, nostalgic...you just made me smile.

AND, do you know some places actually have outhouse tours. It's true.

Maybe we'll have to meet up at one sometime!

But not in the dark.

Cuz that's when the TM comes out!

Fabulous post!

Haha! Love your post! Those were some outrageous outhouses . My gramma had an outhouse too and I remember peeing in a bucket in the middle of the night . That was so gross . Poor mom, she had to empty it out each morning . ewww.

Only used an outhouse once, great aunt Becky that lived way out in the countr. I was not a happy camper but when you gotta go, you gotta go! thanks for sharing all the funny photos! You are a "potty mouth"!

I just LOVED your post!!! Thank you for answering the question about the crescent moon...I've often wondered about it. I can't say that I've ever used an outhouse but my 95-year old mother often talked about using one when she was a child.
Thank you for a humorous and informative post.

I LOVE your Potty Post:) I have never actually used an outhouse...or used the restroom outside...But once I stayed in a "rustic" bed and breakfast in Alaska that had an outdoor shower...and I TOTALLY used that!! It was next to a bathtub filled with glacier run off water that you could take a dunk in! I didn't dunk but I did love the exhibionist shower:) he he:) Great post!

Wonderfully 'poopfect' post! I have a fascination with outhouses. I have a huge problem using them, but
love reading about them and seeing pics, so I really appreciate this
post.

Hugs,

Sue

Well that was interesting! All those outhouses took me back to my childhood and the outhouse (one holer) at my grandparents' cottage; the outhouse at the teacherage in a remote northern village where I taught long long ago (a three holer) and the green composting one-holer that was on offer recently at a holiday spot. I have no regrets - love my modern plumbing, but enjoyed the trip down memory lane.

fun post! never had an outhouse, but my hubby did at his auntie's house in the country. i am fascinated by the composting outhouse...oh my! i am NOT going to tell hubs about that...he might want to give it a whirl and i don't think i have the "strength" for it :)

Great outhouse trivia and images. I especially like the little girl in black and white. Outhouses are not a thing of the past in the rural areas here. But we call them squatties and they're usually concrete or brick and often next to the pig stall. Fun, creative post. :)

Please let me know if you get sent to the office by Mrs. Matlock because I have something planned for next week that's kind of similar. Great minds think alike! :) I enjoyed your post and the pictures were great. That composting one looks just like the restrooms we see at Brazos Bend State Park near me. That's why I try not too drink much when we go.

I got a kick out of reading your post and looking at the pictures....i do have to tell you though, I have an outhouse phobia.....seriously.....

House Revivals said...

Oh, this brought back memories! After my grandfather retired from the ministry, he and my grandmother bought a little farm in a very rural area and started a little mission church. The "restroom" was a little two seater outhouse. In the summers when we would visit, my little friend and I found the two-seaters very convenient, because we could just continue our conversations while we tinkled!

I read on another post that you are in the process of making a move. Hope all is going well.
