LOVEABLE QUIRKY PEEPS

FROM THE DORM...

Got Monday over with at work, went to dad's for a visit and got his mail to mail...
Now I guess I'd better tell about my Adventure Into The Unknown yesterday.

It started out with.....

The Breakfast Of Champions....Ummm, Ya.

When I first came here, Marelo's daughter Tonya told me.."Aunt Vicki, when you need to wash clothes just bring them to my house. There's a place to do laundry there but it's in the basement. And it's creepy!"

So, I've been doing my wash in Fountain Green when I've gone back to the house, at my dad's and once at Tonya's. But what a hassle....and I hate being a bother. But, I wasn't ready to go down to the creepy laundry room in the basement. Until yesterday...

I didn't want to ride ten miles to dad's again, Marelo and Tonya had gone to town, and I needed some clothes washed. So I put on the *Big Girl Panties*, sorted some clothes, put on my bib overalls (?), grabbed the basket, the laundry soap, and headed down the hallway.

Oh, most important item I possess these days...

THE KEY TO THE DORM DOOR! Only one I have and if I don't have it with me when I close the door that locks instantly......ya. That's when I'd have to go find a phone, call the Housing Office, hope someone answered, call the Maintenance Office, hope someone answered, sit on the step outside, cry.... Ya, I always make sure it's in my hand!

Ok, here's that long hallway I showed you awhile back..

Now, if you look about halfway down there, you'll see a red light on the top left, see it?
Can't tell from here, but it's an EXIT sign.

So there I go, about 8Am on a Sunday. I mean, most everyone is still gone for the weekend and anyone who stayed was still sleeping.. except me.

And I took my camera, just in case. Guess I thought if someone found me half eaten by Monster Rats or something, at least they'd know why...

Ok, here's what's under that EXIT sign...

Now you need to know, these are steel doors and it takes a good shove for me to open them. I set things down to take the pictures and push the door open. To the left inside are double doors opening to the outside. To the right is....

Which leads to the basement,
and remember, Steel Doors...

I pull it open and...

Ummm.... Ok, deep breath and down I go to...

More steps....But,
I see a light there to the right so down I go again.

And........

This is what I see....
Can you tell I'm a little s.h.a.k.e.y :)

Then I look to the left and see....

This.....

And....

This....

Hey, it's not so bad at all...

So I put my clothes in to wash and explore some more :)

*Here's your sign*

Seems like to many words to say something so simple.....

How about this table...

It's an OLD one...wood legs, metal top, 110 layers of paint,

And.....

Wow, I bet this was put in the room same time as the table was. Do you remember these? I sure do. I wanted to see if it worked but no one was home or awake yet to call....

Then I walked over to the wood storage thing I first saw. Didn't get too close. I'm sure the Monster Rats were waiting.....

But someone sure wanted whatever was in there at one time..

So much for locked doors. This is as close as I dared get. This is a Chemical Testing Military Base you know....

Then I saw some words in red painted on the wall under this corner...

So of course, we need to know what it says..........

I had to giggle a little. This is on a solid (?) cement wall. There's a duplicate of this at the other end of the wall.

Ok, I think I'll go back up to the Dorm Room while the clothes dry, need a drink of water....

Remember the second set of steps with the light on the right side?
Well, this is what's on the left side...

The reflection is proof that I'm still among the living........

Ok, back up the steps..

And again...

To the steel door that needs to stay closed at all times...

And back through the doors, down the hall and....

HOME....

See ya Yesterday...

I guess they must have had a lot of people wanting to sneak down to that creepy basement from other places to use the machines that they have signs,ha. I like what they would call a "vintage" phone. We had one like that.

Absolutely nothing says "Warm and Welcoming" like, well, every inch of that place! You are more courageous than I. I read too many psychological thrillers for my own good.

Well, you sure get a gold star for bravery! That scenario does look like something out of a B-rated COld War movie..looks like a bunker of sorts - guess it really is..well, one could feel very safe there..or..??

you are such a brave girl. you put on your big girl panties, and you took on that laundry room like it was a walk in the park. good girl!
blessings,
aimee

p.s. maybe you can put your key on a chain so you can wear it. you can always tuck it under your shirt. just a thought :)

Not at all bad, once you get to the laundry area, itself.

I like Aimee's idea of wearing your key on a chain around your neck. Like it a lot!

Wow, I'm glad to get my laundry out of our dark, dank cellar, and the stairs here aren't that great. But, there aren't as many of them, as you have to use. :-) And the laundry is not dark/dank.

Aside from those creepy looking wooden storage bulkheads, the "laundry room" isn't too bad .....the journey to and from? Now THAT took guts!

Hugs!
