Me neither till I got this email from a friend....
(edited to shorten)
Am I the only person who hasn't heard of "cooler corn"?
Over the weekend I was blindsided by the simple genius of this method for cooking loads of corn on the cob perfectly.
My sister with years of camping experience says "let's do cooler corn!" Before I can ask "what the hell is cooler corn?" a Coleman cooler appears from the garage, is wiped clean, then filled with the hucked ears. Next, two kettles-full of boiling water are poured over the corn and the top closed.
Then nothing.
When we sat down to dinner 30 minutes later and opened it, the corn was perfectly cooked. My mind was blown. And I'm told that the corn will remain at the perfect level of doneness for a couple of hours.
Turns out, Cooler Corn is pretty well known among the outdoorsy set. But for those of us who avoid tents as much as possible, it's perfect for large barbecues and way less of mess than grilling. In fact, I may even buy another cooler just so I'm ready for next summer. Now that I'm in the know....
SO, HAVE YA EVER?
AND IF SO, WAS IT REALLY THIS SIMPLE AND DID IT WORK?
IF NOT, WILL YA TRY IT AND LET ME US KNOW?

Carry On...

NO, I never heard of cooler corn, but I'll remember it!
I just use 1 - 2 inches of water to cook corn, doesn't matter how many ears, cook it for 3 mins., then let it sit until dinner is done, up to 30 mins. Works great!
I had Stu come and look at this. We will be trying it to freak folks out.
You aren't the only one. I haven't heard of this before now, either. Sounds like a cool idea, though. I love corn on the cob, especially garden fresh varieties. Yum! Thanks for dancing with me yesterday!
I've never heard of this!!! that is cool.
The coach sent me a link recently to cooking corn IN the husk in the microwave. Just put it in the micro and set for four minutes per cob. I will try this soon.
Quirky idea ! ! ! !
Score one for the sister.
So quick and so easy.
hugs
Hey.....I had another friend who sent me this info....too cool...isn't it?

Never heard of it but then again, I never could warm to grilled corn so I've always cooked it inside no matter how hot it was outside. Raised on a farm so my experience is limited to old school ways of doing things with vegetables and starches.
Sounds great though. Maybe I'll give it a try next year (if I remember it that long).
U bet I will!
COOL!
That is sooo funny- I got the same email from my sister and I had NEVER ever heard of this before. But shy not??! Simple and easy, right!? I'm trying this next year!
Despite all my travels, I'm not a happy camper. But I WILL try this at home... and no, I'd never heard of cooler corn!
I have never heard of this before. Brilliant!!!
I've never heard of it, but I bet it would work. I had an aunt that added milk to her boiling water when she did corn. I bet that would be awesome in the cooler too.
and I'm totally with you. I don't do the whole camping thing. ick. only indoor plumbing for this girl.
